community at the core

Hello and welcome to the second edition of the toob blog, as we continue our adventures in blogging.

This is the first in a series of posts where we want to spotlight some amazing things happening in Southampton.

Community is vitally important to toob. We believe a strong and connected community has the power to overcome any challenges. The last year has only strengthened this feeling within our business, serving as a powerful reminder of the undeniable need to support each other through difficult times.

As a business we remain committed to helping Southampton respond to the ever-evolving needs of the city. We will continue to support causes making a real difference to the local community. By doing so we hope to play our part in leading Southampton to a prosperous future.

food for good

Despite the ongoing challenges presented by the coronavirus crisis, City Catering continue to support the most vulnerable people in Southampton. They are driven by the belief that access to good food should be a right and not a privilege. By providing highly nutritious, freshly made food to those most in need, they are helping to make this a reality.

Their response to the pandemic has been inspirational, showing true commitment to eliminating food poverty across the city. They have faced unprecedented challenges head on and skilfully handled a huge increase in demand for their services. An average day now sees City Catering serve approximately 9,500 meals to school children and provide meals for 150 vulnerable and elderly adults. Since the beginning of the pandemic, they have served over 100,000 free meals to families in need – a truly remarkable effort!

Inspired by their dedication to tackle food poverty, we decided to donate for each new customer joining our full-fibre network. By doing this throughout February and early March we were able to raise over £5,000 in support of City Catering. We are pleased to help contribute to their mission of making good food accessible to everyone in Southampton.

During school holidays the challenges faced by City Catering become more acute and the risk of food poverty dramatically increases. Working in collaboration with activity partners, they opened their school kitchens for free-to-attend holiday clubs. By doing so they were able to serve 500 meals to children most in need during the Easter Holidays. We were delighted to be able to help deliver some of these meals across the city and we are looking forward to continuing our support of City Catering as they provide food for good across Southampton.

Making good food accessible to all has never been so important across the city. If you are able to contribute to the amazing work being carried out by City Catering Southampton or want to find out more please click here to visit their website.
