what is static IP and how does it work?

As standard, toob offers broadband using a CG-NAT (Carrier-Grade Network Address Translation) system. This helps to solve issues surrounding the global shortage of available IPv4 addresses by allowing multiple customers to share a single public IP address and bridges the gap whilst the world transitions to its successor – IPv6. With a static IP, you’ll be assigned your own fixed IP address that isn’t shared publicly and doesn’t change, bypassing our typical CG-NAT setup.

why does toob use CG-NAT?

There are a limited number of public IPv4 addresses available to us, meaning we need to share them between our customer base, and we use CG-NAT as a necessary interim solution whilst the world transitions to IPv6.

can I use the same static IP if I move?

No, you’ll need to let us know if you’re moving house and plan to keep your static IP service, as the IP address will change.

is static IP included as standard with business broadband?

Yes, you’ll simply need to request one when purchasing your business broadband with us.

is it easy to add a static IP to my toob broadband?

am I in a contract if I add a static IP to my service?

No, our static IP service is a monthly rolling product that can be added and removed from your account as you like.

I don't need a static IP anymore; can I remove it?

Of course! Call our friendly customer service team on 023 9300 9300 and simply ask them to remove static IP from your service. We’ll update you on the phone when this will be actioned and if there are any related charges.

my previous provider didn’t charge me for a static IP, why does toob?

Most homes don’t need access to a static IP address, meaning our home broadband deals are perfect for them as they are – affordable and reliable.

For those homes that do need a static IP, we charge an additional £8 a month on top of an existing toob contract. Because there are a limited number of IPv4 addresses available in the world, older broadband providers are likely to have an existing ‘bank’ of these whereas we – as an independent ISP – had to purchase a number of static IP addresses ourselves at a much higher rate.

Our goal as a company is to deliver fast and reliable full-fibre broadband that’s accessible to all, and this often comes down to cost. toob is often significantly better value compared with other competitors when it comes to speed and price. To maintain this balance of exceptional value, we apply a charge to our optional static IP service in order to keep base pricing lower than other providers and only charge for add-ons when needed.

Our home900 service – offering 900 Mbps download and 900 Mbps upload speed for £25 a month on an 18 month contract, plus static IP for an extra £8 a month – would bring your monthly bill total to £33.
