beginning the journey to better broadband

Hello and welcome to the first edition of the toob blog. We are delighted to have you with us as we take our first steps in to the world of blogging.

toob has undoubtedly come a long way since its inception as an idea conceived by our CEO during his 2017 summer holiday. The idea quickly blossomed into a detailed plan to deploy a full-fibre broadband network and so toob was born. Although we have made so much progress over the last few years, it is exciting to think we are only just beginning our journey to transform the South of England’s internet experience.

Southampton was an obvious place for toob to begin building a future-proof full-fibre network. A diverse, progressive and inclusive city which embraces culture, technology and transformation. A south coast powerhouse with a population in excess of 250,000 residents who were under-served with access to fast, reliable broadband.

Building and maintaining the network requires a significant investment in Southampton’s infrastructure and we hope this investment helps provide a catalyst to accelerate a digital transformation which leads the city to a prosperous future.

21st century capable broadband

Southampton is a crucial part of our ambition to transform the South of England’s internet experience. Our aim is simple – to build a future-proof network which provides the broadband speed you need to handle the digital demands of 21^st century life.

As we continue to build a faster and more reliable broadband network, we will ensure access is simple and affordable. By building the network ourselves we have maximum control over the service we provide and the cost to our customers. We wholeheartedly believe everyone in the community should be able to benefit from a full-fibre network. Income, technical knowledge or age should not be barriers. This belief will remain integral to our plans as we widen the network across the South of England.

what to expect

This blog will open the doors as we continue to embark on the journey to make better broadband a reality. Although average download speeds nearly trebled between 2014 and 2019, the most recent update provided by Ofcom showed only 18% of the UK had access to a full-fibre connection. We are excited to play our part in allowing more people to benefit from faster, more reliable full-fibre broadband.

As we continue this journey together, expect a wide variety of topics to be unearthed. Whether that’s tips for getting the most from your broadband, meeting the team behind our business or hearing stories from our customers, we hope to make this an engaging and informative space for you, the reader.

looking ahead

The last 12 months have served as a potent reminder of the need to support each other through difficult times. Now more than ever, we need to focus on building strong and connected communities. As we move forward, we remain committed to offer our support to amazing causes which play a vital role in serving the local community. In our next post we want to introduce some of the inspirational work being carried out across Southampton by City Catering.
