With 2024 well underway, streaming giant Netflix is gearing up to release plenty of new TV shows and movies for viewers to tune into. In 2023, over one billion hours of streaming was consumed worldwide in the first half of the year, according to Netflix’s What We Watched report.  But could the same be in store for 2024?

Avatar: The Last Airbender

Anime fans rejoice as Netflix is set to release a live-action reimagining of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Based on the Nickelodeon show, the new series will follow Aang, a young Avatar who learns to master the four elements in a bid to save his world from the Fire Nation.

The eight-part series will land on Netflix on 22nd February.

3 Body Problem

3 Body Problem is a sci-fi/fantasy series that will follow a group of scientists as they travel across continents and decades in a bid to prevent the end of the world.

During the ordeal, they make multiple earth-shattering discoveries with consequences that could change life as we know it.

The eight-part series will air on the streaming platform on 21st March.

Bridgerton series 3

Bridgerton fans will soon be transported back to the Ton as the third season of the Netflix show is due to land on our screens. The latest instalment will follow Penelope Featherington after the season two scandal which saw the wallflower exposed as Lady Whistledown.

The series will be split into two parts, with the first due to be released on 6th May, and the second on 13th June.

Love is Blind UK

The new UK edition of popular dating show Love is Blind will air this year.

The series will see a new group of singletons on the hunt for love but there’s a catch – they must form connections without seeing their potential love interest in person. A release date is yet to be announced for the UK series.

However, Netflix has confirmed it will be available in 2024.

Spaceman

Following Adam Sandler’s success with 2023 Netflix movie Leo, the actor is set to star in a new movie for the streaming service, titled Spaceman.

Based on Jaroslav Kalfař’s sci-fi novel, Spaceman of Bohemia, Spaceman follows the Czech Republic’s first astronaut Jakub Procházka (played by Sandler) as he carries out a dangerous mission to Venus.

Spaceman will air on Netflix on 1st March.

Damsel

Stranger Things actress Millie Bobbie Brown will star in new Netflix movie, Damsel. The fairytale-inspired flick will see Brown’s character, Elodie, marry a handsome prince.

However, not all is as it seems, as she soon finds out she was sacrificed to repay an ancient debt. Fighting for survival in a dragon’s cave, the movie will focus on Elodie’s escape.

Damsel will air on Netflix on 8th March.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F

Eddie Murphy will return to our screens this year in the latest instalment of Beverly Hills Cop. The actor will once again star as police officer, Axel Foley, who is reunited with his former colleagues after his daughter’s life is threatened.

Teaming up with his daughter and her partner, the trio turn up the heat as they try and uncover a conspiracy.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F will be released on Netflix on 3rd July.

Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie

It’s good news for SpongeBob fans as the hilarious yellow sponge is set to make a comeback in Netflix’s Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie.

In the film, Bikini Bottom is scooped out of the ocean, causing Sandy and SpongeBob to head to Texas to enlist Sandy’s family in a bid to save Patrick, Squidward, Mr. Krabs and the rest of the gang. While a release date for the SpongeBob spin-off movie is yet to be announced, Netflix confirmed the movie will air in 2024.
