Full-fibre broadband provider, toob, is celebrating five years supporting Southampton’s Asian and Ethnic community radio station Unity 101.

Created with the purpose of bringing people from different backgrounds together, Unity 101 has been at the core of Southampton’s Asian and ethnic communities since 2005, broadcasting 24 hours a day for the past 18 years. toob was founded in 2019 with the belief that affordable access to full-fibre broadband is essential for digital inclusion, keeping the community at its core. This meeting of ideals made support for Unity 101 a natural choice for toob.

The past five years of support from toob has helped enable Unity 101 to maintain its current connections to the community, with over 9,500 listeners per month tuning in. In addition, the radio station actively supports projects across Southampton, promoting, organising, and celebrating its community including a community art space, Unity 101 FC, and a yearly awards ceremony to honour local community heroes – causes that toob are often keen to be involved with.

Ram ‘Kelly’ Kalyan, Project and Station Manager, Unity 101, said: “Working with toob has enabled Unity 101 Community Radio to achieve monumental goals. Their speed, reliability, and customer service are unparalleled.”

Nick Parbutt, CEO, toob, said: ‘Kelly is an extraordinary person who dedicates his life to bringing the diverse communities of Southampton together. His leadership of Unity 101 and the team is phenomenal, and it has been an honour to be able to support him and the team over the past five years. I look forward to building on this partnership in the future and continuing to be in partnership with an organisation that delivers so much to the local community.
